Our client

Our client is a leading supplier of large video displays. They manufacture everything from jumbotrons, electronic scoreboards and computer‐programmable displays to digital billboards and control systems.

Their work also involves designing the controlling interface for large display systems, as well as integrating multiple complex displays showing real‐time information, graphics, animation and video. Their video displays are used for a wide array of applications, including sports, entertainment, business and transportation.

Needless to say, it is vital that our client’s video displays are robust and reliable. Whether they’re being used to display schedules for passengers or scores at sporting events, any unexpected outages would be massively disruptive.

That means every component needs to be long-lasting and highly durable – including the power supply.

The challenge

Our client needed a custom power supply they could incorporate into a variety of video display systems. However, these displays would be used in a range of different contexts. Some would be outdoors and exposed to the elements, such as in a sports arena, and others would be used inside, such as in a transportation application.

As a result, the power supply would need to meet stringent reliability requirements and be able to withstand drastic changes in weather when encased in digital billboards and displays. In addition, the client required control for the point of load in these custom power supplies to ensure they were fully adaptable to different contexts.

Finally, since many of these video displays are always on, we had to address heat as a consideration in our design and testing. Maintaining a consistent temperature and avoiding overheating was key to the reliability and durability of the power supply.

The solution

At Wall Industries, our design process for custom power supplies involves working closely with every client to ensure we understand their vision and exceed their expectations.

To that end, our experts worked side‐by‐side with the client’s engineering team to review their specification for each application. We then custom tailored a DC to DC power supply that was highly reliable and could be fitted into a variety of their products.

We were able to develop a custom power supply that worked with many of their standard displays. Each unit was tested in our thermal chamber for fluctuations in heat and atmospheric conditions. The design we created supported their high standards for product quality and performance.

Thanks to this successful project, we can proudly say that many scoreboards, transportation schedule displays and entertainment video displays in hotels and casinos are powered by Wall Industries.
