Our client specializes in the treatment and chlorination of commercial water applications, specifically commercial pools and water parks. Their work covers a range of environments, including commercial swimming pools and water treatment facilities.

In this context, an efficient and reliable source of power was vital to keep operational costs low and avoid downtime. At the same time, commercial water applications place extreme demands on power supplies. As a result, the supply can’t just be efficient – it needs to be robust and durable, too.

Our client came to Wall Industries looking for power supplies that could provide the reliability they needed while reducing their energy consumption and improving their overall efficiency. The challenge

Our client’s emphasis on water purification and chlorination applications for commercial installations made for a challenging brief. They required a power supply that could hold up under the corrosive and high vibration environment of large commercial pools.

The client’s existing linear power supplies were very reliable, but they were looking for a more efficient switch mode power supply. Compared to a linear power supply, a switch mode option is more efficient and generates less heat, making it the ideal choice for such a demanding application.

However, our client was unable to find an off-the-shelf power supply that would offer the mix of efficiency and reliability they were looking for. So, they reached out to Wall Industries to design a custom solution.

The solution

Wall’s engineering team worked closely with the client’s team to develop a custom power supply solution that would work with their unique environment.

Our design process begins with developing a clear understanding of the client’s vision, before undertaking an in-depth review of their specifications. Then, we make informed recommendations before beginning our custom design.

By following this process, Wall’s expert team took our client’s product designs from large, very heavy linear power supplies to custom-designed, switching power supplies. We were ultimately able to create a high-powered n+1 parallelable version that offers:

  • Increased reliability. An n+1 design has built-in redundancy to minimize the risk of downtime.
  • Improved efficiency. Parallel operation allows the power supply modules to operate closer to their optimal efficiency levels, reducing energy consumption.
  • Customizability. A parallelable design is highly modular, making it flexible and suited to varying demands.

The updated designs met or exceeded all client requirements for size, weight and power supply efficiency. Indeed, due to the success they had with Wall Industries’ custom power supply solution, they are now pursuing new markets.
